Italian leadership in nutraceuticals: excellence and opportunities for growth
Workshop organized by National Technological Cluster ALISEI e Agrifood-CLAN, Smart Health Cluster and Agrifood Cluster FVG

Functional foods are products of the food industry that possess proven physiological benefits that go beyond their nutritional role thanks to their natural enrichment in specific beneficial active ingredients. Food supplements are products developed by the pharmaceutical industry that contain active nutritional ingredients derived from food, in the form of pills, capsules or sachets. Both products can be classified as “nutraceuticals”, a term created in 1989 by Joseph De Felice to understand a symbiosis between nutrition and pharmaceuticals. Nutraceuticals represent a new consumer sector in which the Italian pharmaceutical industry and the food industry are investing heavily to provide effective solutions for improving health or reducing the risk of disease through prevention. In this sector, Italy is second only to the United States in terms of scientific production and can boast an enlightened vision that does not limit itself to considering food supplements as nutraceutical but enhances the natural constituents of our quality regional foods and boasts extraordinary development potential, both for the presence of numerous natural products and for the industry’s ability to formulate very pleasant and potentially effective products. All this will be discussed on October 16, 2019 in the workshop Meet in Italy for Life Sciences 2019 in Trieste entitled: “Italian leadership in nutraceuticals: excellence and opportunities for growth.

Diagnosis and therapy: a look into the future
Workshop organized by Bracco

For too long, the role of diagnostics has been underestimated, favoring the healing aspect as the crucial moment of a patient’s treatment. In the last fifteen years, however, we have seen a gradual paradigm shift that has granted prevention and diagnostics an increasingly important role in the governance of advanced countries’ health care policies.

It is now evident that preventive diagnostics means ensuring, together with more effective and personalized care, an ever-improved quality of life for patients. If prevention means applying healthy lifestyles in a sustainable environment, performing a successful diagnosis means knowing how to best integrate all of the available tools for the most effective interpretation of data. Radiomics is one such example.

The Bracco Group has accepted the challenge, putting research projects capable of delivering concrete answers into play. On 16 October, 2019, at the Meet in Italy for Life Sciences in Trieste, Bracco will present these projects at the workshop “The future of diagnosis and therapy”.
